Let's Try Again!!!
We haven't been on this blog for awhile. I think it is time that we try again. I'm adding a link to a video on ted.com. about genius. Just click on the title above that is underlined, and it will take you to the link. We can all watch it and discuss what we think about it and then maybe share some writing???

I related the comments by the author about "the genius" to a recent lecture series from Teaching Company that I listened to. In that series on Mind and Consciousness, the prof. talked about Socrates division between Phusis and Metaphusis - our "physics" and "Metaphysics" - and that elements of consciousness, spirituality, etc belonged to the "metaphysical" realm. Things which are elements of the metaphysical are subjectively experienced, and it is difficult to fit them into a scientific point of view. For example, words on the page = poetry. A computer can string together words on a page, but so far they don't seem to be able to write poetry that moves the emotions. Writing is not just typing, there seems to be some Meta-physical element to it, when it works.

David brings up an interesting point, one that I am also going to bring up during my workshops on digital writing in the classroom. At what point in the future, will a student/writer be able to plug a topic into the computer and have it "write" a paper? Or a poem? Or a story?
